Set up your store
A store in Clockout is one physical location. Everything else — schedules, timecards, payroll — belongs to a store, so it is worth spending ten minutes on these settings before your team starts using the app.
Create the store
Section titled “Create the store”Open Settings → Stores and add a store with its name and street address. If you run several locations, create them all now: employees can be given access to more than one, but a shift always belongs to exactly one store.
The three settings that matter most
Section titled “The three settings that matter most”Time zone. Every punch is stored in UTC and displayed in the store’s time zone. If the store’s time zone is wrong, a shift that ran 10pm–2am will land on the wrong day in reporting and in payroll. Set it to the location’s actual local time zone, not yours.
Workweek start day. This defines the seven-day window overtime is calculated over. It is independent of your pay period — a pay period can overlap multiple workweeks, and overtime is computed per workweek, not per period. The workweek start is applied when a payroll run is composed or recomposed, so changing it affects runs built from that point on; runs that have already been submitted keep the overtime they were calculated with. Still worth deciding once and leaving alone.
Pay period. Weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, or monthly, with the date the first period starts. This is what payroll runs against — see Run payroll.
Break rules
Section titled “Break rules”Set whether breaks are paid or unpaid, and whether the kiosk prompts for them. Unpaid breaks are subtracted from worked time; paid breaks are not. This is the single most common cause of “my hours look short” questions, so get it right and tell your team which one applies.
With the store configured, add your team and pair the kiosk — see Add a team member and Set up the iPad kiosk.
